Located in Western Europe and stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel France has a most beautiful climate. France is warm, pleasant and sometimes sizzling during summer. The French enjoy heading to a beach-side town perhaps in the south of France, le glace that is ice-cream, the gardens or even wading in the water fountains of Trocadero along the streets of Paris. Most Parisians choose to spend their summer out of Paris and holiday in the French countryside or abroad.

Many tourists head to the Louvre or Euro Disneyland in Paris. Moreover the French Open at Rolland Garros marks the start of summer and the Tour de France signifies the coming of Autumn. Summer time in France also means relaxing and having fun. Some of the best beaches in France are along the French Riviera such as Nice. L’été en France

School summer holidays are long and start around the 5th of July and until 3rd September, which is around 3 months. Festivities during this time include le Fete Nationale de la Bastille, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Assomption) and the festival du jazz which is held during July every year in Nice. Despite the hordes of tourists, summer is a beautiful time in France. Moreover French people take their time to enjoy summer. Many French workers take an entire month off of work for much loved leisure time. The month most French take their leave is August. Some choose to holiday in the south or others take a barge cruise.

France is connected by a network of canals that once served as a way to transport goods. Canals now mainly used for recreational proposes. The most famous canal, the Canal du Midi is in fact a UN World Heritage Site. If one is in France during summer be sure to take advantage of the fresh produce, markets and many festivals. Not to mention the beach and work on your tan. Question : Qu’est-ce que vous aimez le plus de l’été ? Avez-vous regardé le tennis à Rolland Garros sur la télévision cette année ? Quel êtes votre activité préfère pendant l’été ?

Sur la télévision

You can watch French programs or programs in French for that matter in a variety of ways. Many popular television shows (émisions) in France are dubbed into French, such as NCIS, Private Practice and True Blood. Take a close look at the languages displayed on the back of a DVD (of a popular series americain) you may be surprised to see that in fact one of the spoken languages is French ! When I find a series dubbed in French I make sure to watch it in French as this is a fantastic way of learning! Par exemple Buffy, Scrubs & Sex in th City seasons 1-3 are dubbed in French not to mention the series True Blood. Moreover you can catch the French news as always on France2.fr as well as comedy programs related to the news of the day at CanalPlus.fr such as Le Petit Journal. Also be sure to check the SBS guide for French Film screeenings during the week and weekend.

Sage étudié

Exams are coming up so here is a wise/ sage tip for any good étudié, try mini-cramming. Cramming is an unfortunate study habit for some people that may never change but there is something you can do that will help you study earlier and be more prepared. Mini-cramming, it gives you a bit of a head start. The last thing I want any of you doing is thinking, “if I stay up to 2.30am and then wake up at 5.45am and study as much French as I can before the exam I would have all the theory material covered!” Mini-cramming will allow you to cover 1 topic per night instead of leaving it all to the night before! Best final exam tip. Drink copious amounts of V Energy Drink? ben non ! Get a decent nights sleep, be confident and don’t stress.
